      Course Description

      This course introduces linear methods used in mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, and engineering. The course presents basic concepts, theory, computational algorithms, and applications. Topics covered include:

      • Chapter 1: Systems of linear equations, matrices, and Gaussian elimination.
      • Chapter 3: Vector spaces, subspaces, linear independence, bases and dimension.
      • Chapter 4: Linear transformations, inner products, orthogonality, Gram-Schmidt process, orthogonal projections, least squares, QR-factorization.
      • Chapter 5: Determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, applications to systems of difference and differential equations, Markov processes.
