Qualifying Exams
The Qualifying exams will be held at the end of September, and again in January and April. In order to advance to PhD candidacy, students need to pass 4 qualifying exams, 2 basic and 2 specialized. One of the specialized exams must be in the students' area of concentration.
Timetables
- Students who enter the program as Masters' students and wish to apply to the PhD program must pass
- 1 qualifying exam by the middle of second year
- 2 exams by the end of second year
and after entering the PhD program must then pass
- 3 exams by the middle of their 3rd year
- 4 exams by the middle of their 4th year
- Students who enter the program as Ph.D. students must pass
- 1 qualifying exam by the middle of the first year
- 2 exams by the end of the first year
- 3 exams by the middle of their 2nd year
- 4 exams by the end of their 2nd year
